Yuvraj Mehta, a young software engineer, lost his life on the night of January 16 while returning home from Gurugram. His car skidded in dense fog and broke through a drain boundary before plunging into a waterlogged pit dug for the basement of an under-construction commercial complex in Sector 150.
The pit was located dangerously close to a sharp turn on the road. Locals say the area had no proper barricades, warning signs, reflectors, or lighting to alert drivers, especially during low-visibility conditions.
Despite managing to escape his sinking car and climb onto its roof, Mehta remained trapped in the water for nearly two hours. He made desperate calls to his father, pleading for help, but rescue efforts were delayed. By the time help arrived, it was too late.

Truck driver Gurvinder Singh has now revealed that he met with an accident at the exact same location on January 2, just days before Mehta’s death. Singh said he survived only due to sheer luck and the help of passersby.
According to him, the road takes a sudden 90-degree turn near the construction site, but there were no visual warnings to indicate the danger ahead. Dense fog further reduced visibility, making the stretch extremely hazardous.
Singh said his truck was moving slowly when the cabin slipped into what looked like a pond formed by the water-filled pit. The rear wheels got stuck near a drain, preventing the vehicle from fully sinking.

A Terrifying Moment
Recounting the incident, Singh said that when he stepped out of the truck to understand what had happened, he realised there was no solid ground. He slipped and fell, barely managing to stay afloat.
He was rescued by passersby who noticed the accident and rushed to help. Singh said that without their timely intervention, the incident could have turned fatal.
After returning home, he said he thanked God and his parents for his survival, calling it a miracle. Even weeks later, the memory continues to haunt him.

Singh said he was deeply shaken when he later saw videos of Yuvraj Mehta struggling for his life. He recalled watching the young man plead with his father over the phone and said the visuals left him in tears.
He said he kept thinking about what Mehta’s father must have felt, watching his son helplessly trapped while rescue efforts failed.
Allegation of Extortion by an Official
“He Asked Me for Money”
Adding another disturbing layer to the case, Singh alleged that after his accident, a man arrived in a Baleno car and introduced himself as a Noida Authority official. According to Singh, the man demanded money from him instead of offering help.
Singh said he questioned the official, asking whether saving a life was not more important than collecting money. He added that while police personnel treated him fairly, officials linked to the authority harassed him after the accident.

Singh has strongly demanded murder charges against those responsible for the unsafe road conditions. He said Mehta’s death was not a simple accident but a result of gross negligence that amounts to killing.
He called for criminal cases under serious sections against the developer who dug the massive pit and left it exposed, as well as against authorities responsible for ensuring road safety.
