Violence During Anti-Encroachment Drive at Turkman Gate—Delhi (400–500 Words)

A big cleanup effort by the city near Turkman Gate in Old Delhi got out of hand on Wednesday. This led to fights between the people who live there and the police. Things got worse fast when some people started throwing stones at the police and city workers who were in charge of the cleanup. The city had to stop the cleanup for a while and add security to the area. The people who live near Turkman Gate in Old Delhi were very upset about the cleanup effort. The city was trying to remove buildings and shops near Turkman Gate, in Old Delhi.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi did this work to get rid of buildings that people had put up on land without permission around the Faiz-e-Elahi Mosque and the areas near it. The people in charge said they were doing this because the court told them to and they wanted to get rid of the things that people had built on the land a time ago which were causing problems with safety and getting in and out of the place.. People got upset when they heard what was happening and a lot of them went to the site early in the morning, which made things tense. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi was trying to clear the land, around the Faiz-e-Elahi Mosque. This was a big part of that job.

The police said that some people in the crowd started getting really angry and they began throwing stones and things at the police who were there. The police got hurt, some of the people, in charge who were trying to calm everything down. So the police used tear gas. They tried to move the crowd away without being too rough. They also sent police to the area to make sure everything was okay again. The police wanted to stop things from getting worse.
