Delhi saw a lot of traffic problems after it rained. This happened when people were getting ready for Republic Day. This made the main roads and the center of the city very crowded. People who were traveling had to wait for a time on Friday. The roads were wet. There were barriers and traffic was being diverted which all slowed down the traffic when everyone was trying to go somewhere during the busy time. Delhi commuters had to deal with this. It was a big hassle because of the traffic, in Delhi.
Traffic officials say that it rained a little in the morning. This made it hard to see and brake on the roads. So people had to drive. This happened on roads in Central Delhi, New Delhi and some parts of North and East Delhi. The roads were also slow because of the Republic Day practice runs. These were happening on the Kartavya Path and the roads around it. There were already rules in place to control the movement of people on these roads. This was done for security. To get everything ready, for the parade on January 26. The Republic Day rehearsal was making things worse.
Some important roads like India Gate C-Hexagon and Rajpath got totally jammed. People who were driving to work in the morning said it took them as long to get there. This was a problem on roads like Tilak Marg and Ring Road. Even the fancy roads, in Lutyens Delhi were crowded. The buses were late too because they had to take routes and there were big puddles of water on the road. India Gate C-Hexagon and other roads like it were a nightmare to drive on.
The Delhi Traffic Police made some changes to the traffic rules for a while. They did this to handle the rehearsals and the traffic jams caused by the rain. They told people who drive to stay from the roads, in the middle of Delhi and to use other roads if they can. The Delhi Traffic Police also put their people at crossings to control the traffic and help people who were stuck.
Rainwater was collecting at the parts of the roads where they meet. This made things even worse. Even though the water did not get too high in places because the drains are better now there was still some water on the roads that go under other roads and on the sides where people can stop their cars. This made the cars go slow or take a road. The cars that people call to take them places and the cars that bring them things were also late which made it hard for people to get where they were going for the last part of their trip. Rainwater accumulation at these lying intersections and the water on the roads caused problems, for the ride-hailing services and the delivery vehicles.
The people in charge said that things will not go as planned during the few days before Republic Day. This is because they have a lot of practice sessions planned to make sure everything goes well on the day. The officials said that these practice sessions are necessary so that they can work out all the security details make sure the ceremony is perfect and handle the crowds properly. They need to do this because a lot of people and guests, from other countries will be there. Republic Day is a deal and they want to make sure everything is just right.
People who travel to work every day should think about how they will get to work of time for the next few days. This is especially important in the morning when they usually have rehearsals for events. It is an idea to use buses and trains and try to go to work at different times. Normal traffic flow is expected to gradually stabilise once rehearsals conclude and weather conditions improve. Until then, residents are urged to stay updated through official traffic advisories and cooperate with enforcement personnel on the ground.
