The motorcycle in the video is seen to whizz past traffic with six passengers clinging precariously onto the vehicle. None of the boys look to be wearing helmets or protective gear of any sort. It is a punishable offense to carry excess passengers, ride without helmets, and to drive dangerously under the Motor Vehicles Act. The accident once again highlights social media’s role in encouraging dangerous behavior. Citizens have been advised by officials to report reckless driving through the proper channels rather than simply posting or sharing viral videos.
The public outcry also relaunched demands to enforce stricter implementation of the traffic rule and increased patrolling in accident-prone areas. In the opinion of many residents, consistent fines imposed and visible policing could prove to be a major deterrent against such recklessness.
