Delhi and the National Capital Region are really cold and foggy. This is causing a lot of problems for people. The India Meteorological Department says that cold air, from the north and moist air are together making it very cold and hard to see in Delhi and the National Capital Region. This is affecting the roads and the trains and the planes. People are having a time because of this. Delhi and the National Capital Region are experiencing low temperatures and it is hard to see because of the fog.
The Delhi area woke up to a lot of fog in the morning. This fog was really thick. It covered big parts of Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad. You could not see far in many places. In some areas you could not see than 50 metres. This caused a lot of problems, on the roads. There were delays and people had to take routes. People who were driving to work said that the traffic was moving slowly on Ring Road, Outer Ring Road and some parts of the Delhi–Meerut and Delhi–Gurugram expressways. The fog made it hard for cars to move. They were going very slowly.
The cold wave is making the temperature in Delhi really low. It is even lower than what it is during this time of the year. Some places in Delhi are even seeing temperatures low as 3 to 5 degrees Celsius.
The people who work at the India Meteorological Department say that this cold weather is happening because of some bad weather coming from the west and cold air coming from the north. This is making a lot of fog at night and in the morning.

The rail and air services had a tough time. Some long distance trains that were supposed to arrive in Delhi were delayed for hours because it was hard to see along the railway routes in the north. At Indira Gandhi International Airport the flights were affected on and off during the early morning hours. The airlines told people to check if their flight was, on time before they went to the airport. They had to use rules called Low Visibility Procedures to make sure everything was safe when the planes took off and landed. The rail services and air services were still having problems because of this.
People who know a lot about health are telling us to be careful when we’re outside in the cold for a long time. They are especially worried about people and kids. Doctors are seeing people who are sick with things like colds and coughs. This is happening a lot to people who have to go early in the morning. The people in charge are telling us to wear clothes and try to stay inside when it is really foggy outside. They do not want us to go outside when it is not necessary. Health experts are saying that cold weather is not good, for us so we should take care of ourselves. We should listen to the health experts. Do what they say to stay healthy.
People who work for the city of Delhi are doing more to help at night. They are giving the homeless people blankets and a place to stay so they do not get too cold. The city of Delhi is also making sure the homeless have a place to sleep.
Some schools in Delhi told parents to make sure their kids wear clothes. The schools in Delhi did this because it is very cold.
