The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has launched a new housing scheme in East Delhi, providing more than 1,000 flats under its latest program for providing affordable and environmentally friendly housing to meet the increasing demand in the National Capital Region. The new scheme, announced this week, is part of the broader government initiative to provide good-quality housing for middle- and low-income segments while encouraging well-planned urbanization.
Modern Homes at Affordable Prices
The new project will comprise a combination of one-bedroom (LIG), two-bedroom (MIG), and three-bedroom (HIG) apartments, said officials from DDA. These will be spread across prime areas like Kalyanpuri, Trilokpuri, and Mayur Vihar Extension, which are well-connected and close to major commercial hubs. Prices will cost between ₹18 lakh to ₹1.2 crore based on the flat size and location.
The apartments will come with up-to-date amenities like 24-hour supply of water and electricity, parks, parking spaces, and community halls. The DDA has highlighted that the structures adhere to green building standards, with measures like rainwater harvesting systems, solar street lights in common areas, and energy-saving material to minimize the carbon footprint.
Emphasis on Connectivity and Infrastructure
East Delhi has witnessed considerable infrastructure development in recent past, and this scheme seeks to benefit from that development. The areas where the housing units are coming up are well-connected through the Delhi Metro Blue Line, facilitating ease of travel to commercial business districts and educational centers. Major road networks such as the Noida Link Road and NH-24 also add to connectivity with nearby areas like Ghaziabad and Noida.
The officials of the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) have informed that the new colonies would also comprise special areas for local markets, parks, and healthcare units, providing a harmonious urban system.
Digital Application Process for Transparency
In a step towards computerized governance, DDA will hold online registrations and allotments on its official website. Applicants can login, see what is available, and fill in their preferences online. The authority intends to carry out the allotment through a computerized draw system, which will ensure transparency and fairness.
To further provide help to aspiring homeowners, DDA will conduct helpdesk and awareness camps all over East Delhi to assist citizens in the application process and impart financial advice in home loans and subsidies.
Beneficiaries and Subsidies
The program mainly aims at Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Lower Income Groups (LIG), and first-time buyers under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) umbrella. Qualified applicants will be able to obtain credit-linked subsidies of up to ₹2.67 lakh on housing loans, further reducing the cost of owning a home.
DDA Vice-Chairman Subhasish Panda stated, “This scheme demonstrates our promise to deliver safe, affordable, and sustainable homes to the residents of Delhi. We are not only constructing houses, but also inclusive neighbourhoods that foster urban development and quality of life.”
The announcement has seen middle-class Delhi residents, particularly families hard-pressed by increasing realty prices, getting excited over it. Experts foresee a good response on the lines of DDA’s last housing schemes in Dwarka and Rohini, which drew more than 50,000 applications within days of opening.
DDA also indicated that this release is just one part of a wider master plan, with future projects in the works in North and West Delhi to spread housing availability more equally throughout the city.
