In a major move towards improving city infrastructure and encouraging environmentally friendly transportation, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta opened the much-awaited Nand Nagri six-lane flyover and launched 300 new electric buses on Sunday, September 28, 2025. Both these steps will help reduce traffic jams and offer green public transport to the people of East Delhi.
Nand Nagri Flyover: Reducing Traffic Bottlenecks
The recently inaugurated flyover, built by the Public Works Department (PWD), is 1.4 kilometers long and links Nand Nagri to Gagan Cinema on Mangal Pandey Road. The flyover was built at an estimated cost of ₹180 crore and is built to have more than one lakh vehicles passing through it on a daily basis, reducing travel time and fuel usage for people
Chief Minister Gupta underlined the significance of the project, saying, “The Nand Nagri flyover is a true reflection of our resolve to upgrade the infrastructure and provide relief from the daily grind for thousands of Delhiites. The project will not only ease traffic but also help create a cleaner environment by keeping emissions at a minimum.”
The flyover is a part of a larger proposal to transform the Wazirabad Road corridor from Signature Bridge up to the Uttar Pradesh border into a fully signal-free stretch. The plan is to organize traffic more smoothly and boost the connectivity of Delhi with Ghaziabad.
300 New Electric Buses: A Green Revolution in Public Transport
At the same time, Chief Minister Gupta inaugurated 300 new electric buses that left the East Vinod Nagar Bus Depot. They form part of the Delhi EV Inter-connector (DEVI) program that aims to upgrade the city’s public transport fleet and lower its carbon footprint.
The new buses have optimized routes, developed with technical assistance from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, so as to provide complete cover in the Trans-Yamuna area. The strategic planning is intended to enhance connectivity from border areas to city interiors and hence benefit residents who had hardly any access to public transport

Union Minister of State for Road and Transport Harsh Malhotra, who attended the event, lauded the initiative, stating, “The introduction of these electric buses marks a significant step towards achieving a greener and more sustainable public transport system in Delhi. It reflects our commitment to reducing pollution and promoting clean energy solutions.”
Future Plans and Commitments
Looking forward, Chief Minister Gupta also unveiled a commitment to increase the electric bus fleet, with a bold target of having a completely electric public transportation system by the close of 2026. This action fits in with the city’s larger goals of minimizing air pollution and facilitating sustainable urban growth.
Besides that, the government is also looking at building additional flyovers and underpasses along the Trans-Yamuna area in order to further decongest traffic and make the overall experience of commuting for residents better.
