Gold Prices Dip Again Across India

Gold prices slipped once more on November 17, giving buyers a fresh opportunity to purchase the precious metal at slightly lower levels. The domestic futures market showed a clear decline during morning trade, influenced largely by a stronger US dollar and global market cues.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold and silver both experienced notable price drops. This decline has caught the attention of investors and shoppers alike, especially with the wedding season underway and many waiting for the perfect time to buy gold.

    Futures Market Update

By 11:29 am on November 17, MCX Gold December futures were down 0.88 percent, trading at 1,22,468 rupees per 10 grams. Silver December contracts also fell by 0.74 percent, hitting 1,54,866 rupees per kilogram.

These shifts in the futures market often reflect larger global trends. A rising dollar usually pressures precious metals, making gold more expensive for international buyers and reducing demand. This leads to lower prices in domestic markets as well.

    Retail Market Prices

As per India Bullions data updated at 11:36 am, the retail price of 24-carat gold stood at 1,23,150 rupees per 10 grams, while 22-carat gold was priced at 1,12,888 rupees. Silver traded at 1,55,610 rupees per kilogram for 999 fine purity.

These are the rates before adding making charges, GST, and other taxes that jewellers apply on the final bill, especially important for retail customers planning purchases.

    Gold’s Impressive Long-Term Performance

Even though gold prices are currently going through frequent fluctuations, the metal has shown strong long-term growth. Between 2005 and 2025, gold prices surged almost 1,200 percent. From just 7,638 rupees in 2005, gold climbed to over 1,25,000 rupees by September 2025.

It has delivered positive annual returns in 16 out of these 20 years. For 2025 alone, gold prices have climbed 56 percent on a year-to-date basis. This makes gold not just a traditional favourite during festivals and weddings, but also a reliable investment for many Indian households.

Why Gold Prices Are Falling This Week

Gold prices in India depend heavily on global trends. Some of the main reasons behind the current decline include:

    Strengthening US Dollar

When the US dollar strengthens, gold becomes more expensive for international buyers. This reduces global demand and pushes prices lower.

    Profit Booking

After a strong rally in recent months, many investors are taking profits, leading to temporary price corrections.

    Global Economic Uncertainty

Gold often rises during uncertainty, but when markets anticipate stability in inflation or interest rates, demand moderates, and prices adjust downward.

    Market Expectations

Traders are watching global central bank policies closely. Any signal of rate cuts or economic recovery can impact gold’s direction.

    Should Buyers Purchase Gold Now?

The latest dip may be attractive for those planning to buy gold for weddings or savings. However, short-term volatility is expected. For long-term investors, gold continues to hold its place as a stable asset with strong multi-year returns.

Retail buyers should also remember that jewellers add making charges and GST to the displayed price. This means the final purchase price will be higher than the market rate.

    Final Thoughts

Gold and silver prices experienced another drop on November 17, giving both investors and shoppers a chance to buy at lower levels. While global trends are currently pushing prices down, the long-term outlook for gold remains strong. With the wedding season at its peak, the latest dip could encourage many to make their purchases sooner rather than later.
