Delhi has seen some cases of dengue during the winter months. This is a worry for the people who take care of our health because we usually get dengue during the monsoon season. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi says that nine people have gotten dengue far in January. This shows that diseases from mosquitoes are still a problem even when it is cold outside. Delhi is dealing with dengue cases and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi is watching the situation closely. Dengue is still a risk in Delhi, during the winter months when it is normally not a big problem.
Health experts say that cold weather usually slows down activity.. The Aedes aegypti mosquito that spreads dengue can live inside homes and breed in dirty water. This dirty water can be found in homes, construction sites and areas that are not taken care of. So it is not common to get dengue in the winter. It is not strange either. This is especially true in cities, like Delhi where a lot of people live close together.
The officials say that the recent cases are because of the mosquitoes that are still breeding from the time after the monsoon. This is happening because we have days sometimes and water is getting collected in things like overhead tanks, coolers, flower pots and containers that people are not using. The people in charge of the city are saying that if we do not completely get rid of the places where mosquitoes breed the baby mosquitoes will still be there even when it gets cold. The mosquito breeding is still happening because of the water in these places. The officials and the people, in charge of the city want us to remember that mosquito breeding is a problem.
Hospitals in the city need to be careful. The people who are sick now do not have it too bad and nobody has died from it.. Doctors are worried that if people wait too long to go to the doctor when it is cold outside they might get very sick. When you have a fever your body hurts you have a headache and you are really tired people often think it is the regular flu that happens every year. So people do not tell anyone they are sick or they wait long to go to the doctor. Hospitals and doctors are talking about the thing the risk of complications, from delayed diagnosis of the sickness the sickness that has these symptoms.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi or the MCD for short is doing something about the problem. They are going from house to house to check for larvae they are fogging the areas where they find a lot of larvae. They are telling people about the issue. The MCD is asking people who live in the area to make sure that water does not collect in or, around their homes. People should also keep the shared spaces in their buildings clean. The MCD wants people to help prevent the spread of the Municipal Corporation of Delhis problem which’s the larvae by keeping their homes and shared spaces clean and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi is working hard to stop the larvae.
People, in charge of health want us to remember that stopping the spread of dengue is something we have to do all year not just when it is raining a lot. Citizens are told to do the following things:
Empty and clean water containers regularly
Use mosquito repellents and screens indoors
Wear full-sleeve clothing, especially during early morning and evening hours
If you have a fever that does not go away you should go see a doctor away. The doctor can give you advice to help you feel better. If the fever persists it is very important to get advice promptly. You should not wait to see a doctor if you have a fever that will not go away. Go see a doctor and get advice so you can get the help you need to feel better.
The fact that we are seeing dengue cases in the winter time shows that the way diseases spread by bugs is changing in cities. Experts think that changes in the weather building things in cities and a lot of people living close together are all reasons why mosquitoes are able to breed for longer periods of time. This is really important when we talk about diseases like dengue because mosquitoes are the ones that spread dengue. So when mosquitoes breed for longer that means dengue is a problem, for more of the year.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and have assured that medical facilities are prepared to handle any potential rise in cases. Residents are encouraged to stay vigilant and cooperate with civic teams to prevent further spread.
