In its statement, the ministry said it aimed to ensure fair pricing and prevent airlines from exploiting stranded passengers, including senior citizens, students, and those travelling for medical emergencies.

The ministry also warned that any airline violating fare norms would face immediate corrective action.


Day 5: Cancellations Continue Across Major Cities

Saturday marked the fifth consecutive day of large-scale cancellations. Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, and several regional airports recorded chaotic scenes and delayed schedules.

Delhi Airport released a statement saying operations were gradually improving but warned that some cancellations and delays would continue.

Passengers reported long queues at boarding gates, confusion over rescheduled flights, and difficulty contacting customer support.


Railways Steps Up To Handle Passenger Rush

Hundreds Of Extra Coaches Added

With thousands of passengers stranded and airfares skyrocketing before the government intervention, Indian Railways saw a sharp rise in demand for long-distance trains.

To address this sudden surge, Railways announced the addition of 116 extra coaches to 37 major trains across the country. These coaches were deployed in premium and high-demand routes, helping ease congestion and providing an alternate travel option for affected flyers.

Southern Railway made the biggest contribution, adding capacity to 18 trains.

Civil Aviation Minister Naidu stated that the government is treating the disruption seriously and has already formed a committee to investigate what went wrong.

He added that those responsible for the breakdown will face consequences, saying, “This should not be left unattended. Whoever was responsible needs to pay for it.”

The inquiry will examine planning deficiencies, crew management failures, and communication gaps within the airline.

On Friday, IndiGo issued a public apology, acknowledging the inconvenience caused to passengers. The airline assured that all cancelled flights will be fully refunded.

The airline also stated that it is working round-the-clock to normalise operations and reposition pilots to reduce the strain on the schedule.
